Italy Leaves China’s Belt and Road Initiative, Ending Four-Year Participation

Italy, after a four-year participation, has officially announced its decision to leave China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). The Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni-led government conveyed its withdrawal to Beijing, becoming the only G7 nation to exit the project. The move has sparked concerns regarding the future economic relationship between Italy and China, as it signifies a shift in the country’s approach towards the Asian superpower. Italy’s decision to leave the BRI is viewed as a bid to align more closely with the United States and other Western nations, highlighting potential geopolitical implications in the region.
