India’s PLI Scheme for Mobile Phone Manufacturing Creates 500,000 Jobs

The production linked incentive (PLI) scheme implemented by the Indian government for the mobile phone manufacturing sector has resulted in the creation of 500,000 jobs, as stated by Ashwini Vaishnaw, the telecom and IT minister. The announcement was made during the inauguration ceremony of Padget Electronics’ new manufacturing facility. The PLI scheme was introduced to boost domestic manufacturing in India and reduce the country’s dependence on imported mobile phones. It offers financial incentives to companies that achieve specific production targets and meet defined investment criteria. The scheme has successfully attracted investments from various mobile phone manufacturers and has significantly contributed to the growth of the manufacturing sector.
